What is the Academy?
It represents an initiative of Code for South Africa’s data literacy programme for data-driven journalism. It aims to equip residents with skills that will lead to sustainable changes within their newsrooms.
Code for South Africa is actively involved in ongoing projects that promote innovation in the media space through the use of data-driven storytelling and the Academy plays an important role in achieving this.

What’s involved?
Our training courses consist of a combination of theoretical and hands-on practical work.
Participants have the opportunity to gain practical data journalism skill-sets that will equip them to deliver compelling data-driven multimedia stories. The Academy team is made up of a combination of experienced data journalists, coders, data wranglers, analysts and content specialists.
