Description

The use of data in newsroom is a must-have in the digital age. Adding this element to newsrooms is not only essential, but exciting. Setting up a data newsroom, or setting up a data unit to fit into an existing newsroom presents its own unique set of challenges, logistically.

This course teaches participants how to set up a data unit or newsroom. It will cover the resources needed, the practical aspects of inserting a data unit into a newsroom or setting up a data newsroom from scratch. Aspects covered include how to fit data journalism into a daily or weekly diary, using data to produce quick, daily stories and long term investigations.  The course also covers how to incorporate visualisations and other forms of digital storytelling into a diary and how to integrate developers into the newsroom.
