Course Description

This course will introduce participants to a host of online investigative journalism tools, data visualisation and storytelling tools.  The course includes a quick overview of a number of online tools that are free and open source, and assist journalists to tell engaging stories using data visualisation embeds.  The course also includes hands-on practical sessions to allow participants to become familiar with these tools.

  • Know of the various existing investigative online tools that can assist journalists
  • Identify Data Visualisation as a distinct stage in the Data Pipeline
  • Differentiate between different data visualisation tools
  • Identify which tool to use in which circumstance
  • Become familiar with the use of different data visualisation tools
  • Be able to embed data visualisations into stories with ease

Intended Audience

Journalists or story-tellers who wish to incorporate data visualisations into their stories, or data wranglers or analysts who are looking for innovative ways of presenting data visualisations.
